Homestead Improvement & Management

HIM School - Introduction

Herd Improvement & Management (HIM) School

Equip Yourself to Serve Rural Communities Through Practical Herd Management

The Herd Improvement & Management (HIM) School is a twelve-week lecture course designed to equip believers with practical livestock and homesteading skills, while deepening their walk with God. Through classroom teaching and hands-on learning, you will discover how caring well for animals can open doors to share the gospel in rural and agricultural communities around the world.

What Is the HIM School?

The HIM School focuses on herd health, small-scale homesteading, and sustainable practices that can be reproduced in rural settings. You will learn how to steward animals and land well, while also growing in character, discipleship, and your ability to hear God's voice.

Teaching topics may include: basic animal health and nutrition, disease prevention, vaccination protocols, reproduction and calving, grazing and pasture management, record keeping, small herd economics, and how to use practical skills as a bridge for ministry in ranching and farming communities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need previous livestock experience?
No. HIM is designed for both seasoned ranch hands and students who are just beginning to work with animals. You will be taught safe handling skills, basic herd management, and how to grow in confidence around livestock.
Is HIM only for people called to overseas missions?
Not at all. Many students come with a heart for local ranching communities, while others feel called to serve in developing nations. The tools you learn can be used on family ranches, small homesteads, or in cross-cultural field settings.
What is included in the cost of the school?
Tuition generally covers your housing, meals, and school-related activities during the lecture phase. Outreach costs and personal expenses are additional. Please see the current application packet or contact our office for up-to-date details.
